Dh and I are attending a "cocktail attire" 7:00 - 11:00pm celebration in 3 weeks.  So...WHAT DO WE WEAR?!?

Pretty sure I know what to wear, but does he wear suit/tie or more formal, a black suit? We have been out of the 'adult party' scene for a while. lol

My personal opinion is that he could wear a jacket with no tie or a dress shirt with a tie and no jacket.  I think that anything more formal goes past cocktail IMHO.

I would say a suit or a jacket.

I'd say jacket and tie or suit and tie, both would be fine, but I don't think he needs to go with a black suit.  How fun!  This is the reason for all those cute cocktail dresses at the store!  :)

Cocktail attire for men is a suit and tie. Sorry, TAJ, but I think he needs a dark suit - doesn't have to be black, and tie. We attended a "cocktail attire" wedding a few weeks ago and all the men were in dark suits and ties. One guy wore a sports coat and khakis and he stuck out like a sore thumb.

I bought a VERY cute strapless black dress with horizontal folded/pleated fabric at the top from Target for $39 and wore it to a wedding last month. They had lots of other cocktail dresses. It fit better than many dresses I paid 4 times that for from department stores.

Here is is online:
