Has someone saved yours?

(either literally, or just in the sense of giving a "reason to live" ...)

I'm one of those nuts who love the drama-in-real-life stories in magazines and wonder what it would be like to actually save someone, or be saved myself!

I had an ex-boyfriend ( a precious friend at the time) tell me he had planned to kill himself one night until he came to see me and I said he looked bummed and we needed to go sit and hve some coffee. He said just listening to me talk and laugh and tease turned his whole perspective around. I don't know if he really would've harmed himself ( I hope not), but just knowing that I might be that instrumental in someone else's happiness has saved me from despair many times since then.

Possibly.  It's hard to know for sure, it wasn't as dramatic as a speeding car or anything like that but I used to volunteer with an agency that did rescue...so there were some quick extrications that at least helped people have a chance to live by getting them to the hosptial quickly.  But the only time I can really say I prevented something was when we were working the Christmas parade.  We walked beside the Santa float to keep kids away from the truck and trailer.  One little boy about 2 or 3 toddled into the street with his eye on some candy and I snatched him up right before the trailer hit him.  It was obviously going slow but it would have run him over...might not have killed him but I'm still glad I was there to prevent it.

"They" say giving blood saves lives.  I've donated blood more times than I can could count.  Not dramatic though.

I will say that when Dad was battling cancer, he needed 3 blood transfusions.  So yes, those saved his life...for a little while at least.  Precious time w/ loved ones.  We were all thankful for all those people who donated for us.

So, save a life....give blood!
