Coming to TN for a weekend getaway with my husband and two boys 3.5 and 2 yrs old.  We have never been and have no idea of what to do or where to stay.  I asked my home site Indymoms for advice but thought Id try to get some info from you ladies.  Where should we stay and what fun things should we make sure not to miss?

One more thing...we love pizza.  Any recommendations on a local (not a chain) pizza place that is really good?

Well we are trying to decide.  Gatlinburg seems to be the favorite of indymoms.

Galtinburg is nice. I prefer Chatanooga for a shorter stay.Chatanooga has the Choo-Choo hotel which is really cool to stay at. There is also the Aquarium and the Childrens museum. Riverboats are good if it is nice out.

HI!  My family LOVES Gatlinburg, especially during the fall and winter.

Past discussions here about Gatlinburg:

If you have more specific questions after reading the above discussions, please ask.  FYI - we are getting into the time of year where the mountians get snow at higher elevations.  Be prepared for part of the park to close due to icy roads.  Clingman's dome (highest point in TN) is a must http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/clingmansdome.htm as is Cade's Cove if you want to see black bear http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/cadescove.htm.

Area offers great trout fishing, skiing at Ober Gatlinburg, beautiful hikes at all levels, TN heritage, outlet shopping (although many are closing due to slow economy), Ripley's Aquarium, Dollywood theme park (small scale), and lots of tourist traps.  :)

What do you want to do if you come to Nashville? that will help us narrow down what to tell you.  It's not all country music -- unless you want it to be.  Also, we love DaVinci's in Midtown very unusual pizza. Not a chain.  We had a couple of our usual faves Saturday night: spinach & blue cheese and potatoe and bacon. Very original.
